The 4th culture and sports festival of the Tay ethnic minority group in Tien Yen district, the northern province of Quang Ninh, opened on February 11.

The event drew the participation of three delegations representing Tay ethnic people living in three communes in the district.

The annual festival is held by turns in communes here many Tay ethnic people live. The festival is an opportunity to review a year of production and open work for a new year. It is also a place for people to promote community solidarity, try their best in traditional sports and introduce special foods of their ethnic group. Therefore, the festival always attracts many people from inside and outside the district.

The festival also reflects the special custom of the Tay ethnic group of the ceremony to pray for peaceful villages and abundant crops.

Art performances and folk games of the Tay ethnic minority group are also held during the festival.

There are more than 7,000 Tay people in Tien Yen district, accounting for 58% of the population in the district. The festival is a significant cultural event for the Tay and contributes to preserving and promoting specific cultural values of local people in Tien Yen district./.
