Despite the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, Vietnam’s export of shrimps to the RoK had reached 179 million USD as of July 15, a year-on-year rise of 5.8 percent.

Dried shrimp and processed giant tiger prawn reported the highest growth rates, with 194 percent and 62 percent, respectively.

Vietnam’s shrimp is exempted from import tariffs to the RoK with a quota of 15,000 tonnes a year. However, at present, Vietnam is shipping just 2,500 tonnes of shrimps to the Eastern Asian country.

Domestic exporters are advised to raise their awareness of the Vietnam-RoK Free Trade Agreement to take advantage of its incentives.

Foreign companies put faith upon Vietnam's economic prospects

Leaders of foreign businesses are still optimistic about Vietnam's economic prospects, although an increase in the number of new cases of COVID-19 has resulted in new social distancing measures, especially in the central city of Danang.

Mr. Kenneth Atkinson, founder of international audit firm Grant Thornton and Vice Chairman of the Tourism Advisory Board (TAB), said that economists are warning that the new outbreak of COVID-19 could cast black shadows on earlier positive forecasts about Vietnam's short-term economic growth.

However, Mr. Atkinson said that he is not too worried because he believes that Vietnam will remain an attractive destination for international companies.

"The way Vietnam coped with the first wave of the COVID-19 pandemic brought people a lot of confidence in the country and that will speed up the economic recovery process," he said.

Despite living and working under tightened disease control measures, most foreigners in Da Nang believe that the government of Vietnam has taken prompt and effective action to stop the COVID-19 pandemic in both the first and present outbreaks.

Ms. Eva Monique McDonough, a Canadian citizen teaching English in Vietnam, said that she is less worried upon learning that the community in which she lives is very compliant with the government's regulations.

“These rules are set to keep us safe,” she said.

A website designer also agrees that the government of Vietnam is doing its best to prevent a new outbreak of the pandemic, and that the current measures are very important to prevent the pandemic./.

The Government office has announced the conclusion of Standing Deputy Prime Minister Truong Hoa Binh on the project of not organizing the district and ward People’s Councils in Ho Chi Minh city and the project of establishing cities directly under the southern hub.

During the process of building the project, Mr. Truong Hoa Binh noted that Ho Chi Minh City should collect ideas of foreign investors, the world’s leading technology, finance and real estate groups on orientations of building Thu Duc city. The activity can be organized through online meetings in order to understand the investment demand, infrastructure requirements so that it can be integrated into the general scheme and orientation of the city.

Scheme of Thu Duc should be associated with the general scheme of the city as well as those of regional scheme in order to create driving force for growth; avoid overlapping development direction among regions and avoid creating unnecessary regional competition./.
