Dong Nai’s first batch of durian exported to China

Dong Nai province on June 16 announced the export of the first batch of durian in 2023 in accordance with a protocol signed between the Vietnamese Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development and the General Administration of Customs of China, said the Vietnam News Agency.

Accordingly, six firms have been granted codes of export to China via Tan Thanh, Huu Nghi and Mong Cai border gates, with 20 containers carrying 360 tonnes of durian of Dona and Ri6 varieties, which were harvested from six different cultivation areas and packaged at six processing facilities.

Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee Vo Van Phi described durian as one of the key crops in the province. It is projected that Dong Nai will export 20,000 tonnes of durian from 11 growing areas covering 820ha this year.

On this occasion, a display area introduced durians for visitors to taste and a seminar was held to discuss improving quality standards and competitiveness of durian export to China.

Earlier on June 15, the Long Khanh fruit festival and the week honouring fruits and OCOP (One Commune, One Product) items opened in Long Khanh city, Dong Nai province.

The week, held by the provincial Department of Agriculture and Rural Development and the Long Khanh municipal People’s Committee, featured 40 stalls showcasing local signature fruits and farm produce.

In particular, over 2.3 tonnes of rambutan will be used to serve visitors free of charge.

Running until June 23, the festival serves as a meeting point for managers, scientists, businesses and farmers to share knowledge, learn from each other, expand networking and markets, especially for fruits and OCOP products, while promoting the development of eco-agricultural tourism.

With a total area of over 11,300 ha, Dong Nai ranks first in the southeastern region and fourth nationwide in terms of durian cultivation area. The harvested area covers nearly 6,600ha, and it is estimated that the fruit production will reach around 69,000 tonnes this year.

Dong Nai has actively developed cultivation area codes and export packaging facilities for the Chinese market. At present, the province has 11 durian growing areas sprawling 820ha.

Vietnamese gymnast earns place in world championship

Van Vi Luong of Vietnam earned his place at the World Gymnastics Championship after his performance at the ongoing Asian championship in Singapore, according to the Vietnam News Agency.

Luong finished 14th in the men's all-round event with 79.097 points after six apparatus on June 15 at the OCBC Arena.

Japanese Oka Shinnosuke took gold with 86.065 points, followed by Filipino Carlos Yulo (86.930 points) and Kitazono Takeru of Japan (85.431 points).

The top 24 gymnasts, with a maximum of two per country, will qualify for the all-around finals.

Luong was one of six athletes who secured world tickets from this tournament.

The World Gymnastics Championships, between September 30 and October 8 in Belgium, is also the first opportunity for nations to qualify for the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris. The top three highest-ranked teams in the team final will automatically qualify a full team of five gymnasts to the Games.

In another event, Nguyen Phuoc Hai had 13.933 points for No. 9 place and qualified for the finals of the men's individual parallel bars.

In men's rings, Nguyen Van Khanh Phong placed fourth in the qualification with 14.133 points and was confirmed a berth in the finals.

Vietnam will send a squad of five men and four women to the Singapore competition. The championship will conclude on June 18.

Vietnam becomes seventh most searched country worldwide

The volume of international searches for Vietnamese tourism soared by 10% to 25% during the period from early March to June, making it the seventh highest growth rate worldwide, according to a report released by the Google Destination Insights, Radio the Voice of Vietnam reported.

The top countries on the list were Turkey, Greece, Croatia, India, Italy, Spain, Vietnam, the United States, Japan, and the UK.

In Southeast Asia, Vietnam was the only nation to feature among the top group in the world, while other regional countries were ranked quite far behind, with Thailand in 15th place, Indonesia in 16th, Malaysia in 18th, the Philippines in 20th, and Singapore in 26th.

The main searches for details about Vietnamese tourism come from the US, Japan, Australia, Singapore, India, Thailand, France, Germany, the UK, and the Republic of Korea (RoK).

Furthermore, the 10 most searched Vietnamese destinations were Ho Chi Minh City, Hanoi, the central city of Da Nang, Phu Quoc Island in the southern province of Kien Giang, Hoi An City in the central province of Quang Nam, and Nha Trang in the southcentral province of Khanh Hoa.

In the opening five months of the year, Vietnam welcomed 4.6 million international visitors, reaching nearly 57.5% of the planned annual target.

The Vietnam National Administration of Tourism (VNAT) predicted that with strong growth momentum, the country’s tourism may attract 10 million foreign tourist arrivals this year, a figure which would surpass the previously set target of receiving eight million.

Kazakhstan adopts visa exemption agreement for Vietnamese citizens

The Government of Kazakhstan has approved the Agreement between the Government of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the Government of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam on visa exemption for citizens of the two countries, said Radio the Voice of Vietnam.

The above decision is stipulated in the decree issued on June 13, 2023 and comes into force immediately.

The agreement states that valid national passport holders of each country with a validity of at least 6 months, will be exempted from visas to enter, exit, transit, and temporarily stay in the territory of the other country for a period of time not exceeding 30 days from the date of entry and not exceeding 90 days for each 180-day period.

If citizens plan to stay longer than this period of time, they will have to apply for a visa.

Deputy Prime Minister -Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan, Murat Nurtleu is authorized to sign the agreement on behalf of the Government of Kazakhstan.
