First-ever digital timestamping service launched in Vietnam

SAVIS Technology Group, one of Vietnam’s top 10 tech firms, launched TrustCA Timestamp Signing, the first and only digital timestamping service in the country so far, in a Hanoi ceremony on March 31, reported Vietnam News Agency.

As the digital economy is defined to be a driving force of growth in Vietnam in the next five years, it is important to develop digital tools, including digital signature, to facilitate people’s participation in the digital economy.

Integrated with the Long-term Validation (LTV) and Long-term Archive and Notary Services (LTANS), TrustCA Timestamp Signing provides e-documents with complete protection against forgeries and frauds in digital transactions and ensures their legal validity and trustworthiness in a certain period of time.

Speaking at the event, Nguyen Thien Nghia, Deputy Director of the National Electronic Authentication Centre (NEAC), said the TrustCA Timestamp service fully complies with Vietnam’s current regulations and satisfies standards set by the US and EU.

The service is expected to lay a basic foundation for the digital transformation ecosystem in all areas, such as e-healthcare, online public service delivery, e-learning, e-finance, and e-banking.

The Ministry of Health’s information technology department and SAVIS took the occasion to sign an agreement for the latter to provide timestamping service in healthcare./.

Vietnam's forestry products see a trade surplus of over 3 billion USD

Vietnam’s wooden products continued to gain trade surplus from the beginning of the year with more than 3 billion USD, reported the Vietnam Administration of Forestry.

According to the administration, in March, export value of wood and forestry products reached an estimated 1.524 billion USD, bringing the total figure for the first three months to 3.944 billion USD, a year-on-year rise of 41.5%. Of this, exports of wood and wooden products reached 3.699 billion USD, up 41.5%; while non-timber products were valued at 243 million USD, up 38.4%.

The main wood and forest products export markets include: the United States, Japan, China, the EU and South Korea, which account for 90% of the total export value of timber and forest products.

In addition, Vietnamese businesses are currently importing wood and forestry products from China, the United States, Cameroon, Thailand, and Chile, accounting for about 55% of the total value of imported wood and forest products in the three months.

Import value of wood and wooden products in March is estimated at 227 million USD. Accordingly, the figure in the first three months reached 696 million USD, a year-on-year rise of 31%.

Generally, over the past 3 months, Vietnam’s forestry products and wooden products saw a trade surplus of 3.234 billion USD, an increase of 43.4%.

Overseas remittances to HCM city rise over 10% in first quarter

Overseas remittances to Ho Chi Minh city reached 1.45 billion USD in the first quarter of 2021, a 10% rise compared to the same period last year, reported the city Committee for Overseas Vietnamese Affairs.

In 2020, the southern city received 6.1 billion USD in remittances, up 12% over the same period last year.

Ho Chi Minh city now has nearly 2 million expatriates living and working abroad. In order to offers opportunities for expatriates to transfer money to the homeland, the city has carried out more payment methods by technology.

According to data from the World Bank (WB), in 2020, remittances to Vietnam is estimated at about 15.7 billion USD, listed among the Top 10 countries receiving the most remittances in the world.

Generally in the past 5 years, remittances sent to Vietnam totaled 71 billion USD, an average growth of 6% a year, of which the figures in 2018 and 2019 reached 16 billion USD and 16.7 billion USD, respectively./.
