Government purchases 21.9 million COVID-19 vaccine doses for children aged 5-11

According to a Government resolution, the government of Vietnam has been agreed to buy 21.9 million doses of the Pfizer vaccine against COVID-19 for children aged 5-11 by.

Children aged 5-11 will be vaccinated against COVID-19 shortly in Vietnam, using the Pfizer vaccine, reported the Voice of Vietnam.

The Government approved the contractor selection in special cases specified in Article 26 of the Bidding Law for the purchase of the vaccines.

The Ministry of Health (MoH) will be responsible for organizing the purchase and deployment of Pfizer vaccination for the children in a scientific, safe and effective manner.

The MoH is currently working with suppliers to ensure that it will acquire enough vaccines for the children as soon as possible.

Minister of Health Nguyen Thanh Long said the MoH has consulted the World Health Organisation and learnt from foreign experience concerning vaccination for children from 5 to under 12 years old.

Currently nearly 40 countries worldwide have planned or implemented vaccination for these children. The World Health Organisation has officially approved recommendations for the Pfizer vaccine for children of this age group.

The vaccination campaign for these children will be carried out cautiously and voluntarily with top priority to be given to safety, said Dr. Long.

To date more than 182 million doses of COVID-19 vaccines have been administered in Vietnam, including over 74 million second doses and nearly 29 million third doses.

Students from grades 1-6 in Hanoi's suburban districts to return to school from February 10

Face-to-face learning will be resumed for pupils from the first to sixth grades in 18 suburban districts and towns of Hanoi from February 10 after a long time of online learning due to COVID-19, according to the Vietnam News Agency.

On February 5, Vice Chairman of the municipal People’s Committee Chu Xuan Dung signed a document agreeing with the Department of Education and Training's proposal to allow pupils from the first to sixth grades to come back to school.

The city People’s Committee asked the department to coordinate with the Department of Health to guide the district-level People’s Committees to observe anti-pandemic regulations during in-person learning activities.

Hanoi’s suburban localities are Ba Vi, Chuong My, Dan Phuong, Dong Anh, Gia Lam, Hoai Duc, Me Linh, My Duc, Phu Xuyen, Phuc Tho, Quoc Oai, Soc Son, Son Tay, Thach That, Thanh Oai, Thanh Tri, Thuong Tin and Ung Hoa.

Meanwhile, pupils of grades one to six in 12 urban districts and those in high-risk areas will continue to study online, while preschool children will stay home.

Schools are requested to meet safety requirements against COVID-19. Only fully vaccinated teachers can lead in-person classes.

Students will spend only half of a day at school. The city requires schools not to conduct day-boarding services or open canteens.

The Steering Committee for COVID-19 Prevention and Control of districts were asked to prepare plans to respond to COVID-19 infections in schools. They are authorised to decide on the closure of schools if necessary.

Also on February 5, the Government decided to purchase 21.9 million doses of Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine for children aged 5-12.

Earlier, the Hanoi People's Committee had decided to allow students from grades 7 to 12 to return to school from February 8.

Bai Dinh Pagoda Festival begins in Ninh Binh

The Bai Dinh Pagoda Festival kicked off in Gia Sinh commune, Gia Vien district of the northern province of Ninh Binh on February 6, or the sixth day of the Lunar New Year.

This has been the eighth edition of the annual festival since the Trang An Landscape Complex in the locality was recognised as the World Cultural And Natural Heritage Site by UNESCO, reported the Vietnam News Agency.

This year, due to COVID-19, only basic rituals are conducted, while festive activities are restricted.

The ancient Bai Dinh Pagoda, built thousands of years ago, is located on Bai Dinh Mountain and lies about 800m from the Tam The temple of the new Bai Dinh Pagoda area.

According to the Vietnamese concept, the ancient Bai Dinh Pagoda is located on an area regarded as a sacred land given it is the birth place of the eminent figures of the nation, including kings, saints and divinities.

The festival will last until the end of the third lunar month./.
