The event, held by the Ministry of Industry and Trade’s Asia-Africa Market Department and Vietnam E-commerce and Digital Economy Agency in collaboration with the Vietnamese trade office and Vietnamese Embassy in Singapore, took place in the context that both nations are ramping up efforts to develop their digital economy.

Vietnamese Ambassador to Singapore Mai Phuoc Dung highlighted the significance of the event, saying it met the requirements of the Vietnamese e-commerce enterprises while helping implement economic diplomacy activities that lay a foundation to upgrade the Vietnam-Singapore Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in the coming time.

Meanwhile, Director of the Asia-Africa Market Department Do Quoc Hung stated that e-commerce is an important component of the bilateral cooperation, describing the robust development of the e-commerce market of both sides as an opportunity for them to study and bolster cooperation and investment in the area.

President of the Singapore Manufacturing Federation Lemon Tan said Vietnam has become the most popular destination of Singaporean enterprises, given the country’s young and abundant workforce.

He suggested the two countries enhance trade promotion to ensure the efficacy of investment.

Doven Yap, Acquisition and Partnerships Lead at TikTok Shop Singapore, said Vietnam has wonderful agricultural products that will receive warm welcome in the Singaporean market if their production process as well as information are ensured.

More Europeans searching for information about Vietnam to travel this summer: Agoda

Vietnam is Asia’s third fastest growing destination for European globetrotters based on accommodation searches, according to digital travel platform Agoda, reported Vietnam News Agency.

As Europe’s summer approaches, travel insights from digital travel platform Agoda reveal that destinations in Asia not only rank among the most popular outside Europe, but their popularity is increasing compared to last year, with Agoda noting 52% more accommodation searches in April by Europeans for travel to Asia this summer.

According to Agoda’s search data in April, Malaysia saw interest in its attractions increase 89%, while Japan placed second, with 71% more interest noted than last year.

Vietnam took third place, with a 66% increase in interest from travellers in Europe.

Lam Vu, Agoda’s Vietnam Country Director, said: "The increase in searches compared to last year indicates Vietnam’s growing popularity as a summer holiday destination among Europeans. It’s great to see more and more Europeans exploring all that Vietnam has to offer during their getaway periods."

Ho Chi Minh City, Hoi An and Nha Trang are the most searched locales in Vietnam by Europeans. These destinations offer a mix of leisure, adventure, and cultural experiences, appealing to travellers seeking to make the most of their long-distance summer holiday, Agoda said.

The European markets with the most searches for travel to Vietnam in April were France, Germany, United Kingdom, the Netherlands, and Spain.

Within Asia, top destinations in Asia for European travellers are Thailand, Indonesia, and Japan, respectively. This reflects the wide appeal of Asian destinations to travellers with a variety of interests.

Whether seeking the vibrant street life and historic sites in Bangkok or riding the rolling waves on the surf-friendly coasts of Bali, European tourists are looking to explore what Asia has on offer.

The referenced data originates from accommodation searches conducted on Agoda in April 2024, compared against searches conducted in April 2023, specifically for check-in dates between July and August.

Hanoi ranks second in FDI attraction in May

Hanoi’s foreign investment capital (FDI) attraction in the first five months of the year ranks second nationwide, reaching nearly 1,120 billion USD and accounting for 10.3% of total registered investment capital, down 39% from the same period last year, according to the Foreign Investment Agency.

In May 2024, Hanoi had 19 newly-licensed FDI projects with a total registered capital of 17.3 million USD; seven ongoing projects registering increased capital of 70.7 million USD; 19 foreign investors contributing capital and buying shares with 10.6 million USD.

In the first five months of the year, the capital attracted 1,120 billion USD of FDI capital, of which 92 new projects were registered with a capital of 1,025 billion USD; 64 ongoing projects increased investment capital by 36.8 million USD; and foreign investors contributed capital and purchased shares 86 times, reaching 57.9 million USD.

The city has issued certificates to 12,900 newly-established businesses with registered capital of 124.3 trillion VND, representing a 2% decrease in the number of businesses and a 3.5% decrease in registered capital compared to the same period last year.

In addition, during the period, 5,400 businesses resumed operation, an increase of 18.5%, while nearly 16,200 businesses registered to temporarily suspend operations, an increase of 29.4%. Notably, 1,700 businesses dissolved, an increase of 14.8%. The rate of online business registration documents is maintained at 100%, ensuring quality and timeliness.

Hoi An, Da Nang among top ten cities to work remotely in 2024

Freaking Nomads, an online resource for digital nomads, has revealed the 10 best cities for location-independent professionals this year, with Hoi An city ranking first thanks to affordability, strong Wi-Fi, and warm communities, reported Vietnam News Agency.

The central coastal city of Da Nang ranks fourth.

Travel+Leisure, a travel magazine of the US with more than 16 million readers, on May 28 cited the Freaking Nomads list of the best cities for digital nomads.

The top three cities are Hoi An, Delhi (India), and Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia), followed by Da Nang and Mumbai (India).

After the COVID-19 pandemic, remote working has become increasingly popular, with more and more people looking for destinations to combine travel and work.

According to a report by WFH Research - a company studying remote working trends, as of 2023, 12.7% of full-time US workers had chosen to work remotely. The rate is expected to reach 22% by 2025.

Freaking Nomads analysed various factors to determine the best destinations, including the remote work visa ease of access for digital nomads; the cost of living index, rent index, groceries index, restaurant price index, and local purchasing power relative to New York City; the number of coworking spaces per 1 million residents (circa 2019); average mobile data speed Mbps; and average broadband speed Mbps.

On a scale of 100, Hoi An is at the top position with 73.94. As a world heritage site recognised by UNESCO, Hoi An is home to well-preserved buildings that are hundreds of years old, and winding streets filled with colorful lanterns which create a magical atmosphere. The ancient beauty of Hoi An will attract digital nomads who want to work in a unique corner of the world.

Meanwhile, Da Nang got 71.32 out of 100. The city is well-known for its beautiful coastlines and amazing destinations, for example Ngu Hanh Son, that inspire digital nomads./.
