Vietnam Airlines to operate direct air route between Hanoi and Phnom Penh

Vietnam Airlines announced on August 22 that it will operate direct flights from the Vietnamese capital of Hanoi to the Cambodian capital of Phnom Penh and vice versa, starting on October 27, reported VOV News.

Accordingly, there will be four weekly flights taking place every Monday, Wednesday, Friday, and Sunday. Airbus A321 aircraft will be used to transport passengers on the new air route.

Vietnam Airlines is the first domestic airline to open direct flights to Phnom Penh, contributing to completing a flight and trade network between Vietnam and Cambodia.

Currently, passengers who wish to fly from Hanoi to Phnom Penh must first transit via Vientiane, Laos.

To mark the launch of the flights, Vietnam Airlines is offering attractive round-trip airfares for flights with a starting price from just US$262, equivalent to more than VND6 million. The discount policy will last until September 30 and will apply to the flights departing during the October 27 to November 2 period.

In the first six months of this year, Cambodia was Vietnam’s fastest-growing market, increasing by 396% against pre-COVID levels, followed by India with growth of 312% and Indonesia at 177%.

Cambodia was one of the 10 largest sources of visitors for the country’s inbound tourism market between January and June.

Da Nang stimulates travel demand of Korean tourists

The Da Nang tourism industry is implementing a program to stimulate travel demand of Korean tourists, namely “Enjoy Danang Again.”

Korean tourists capture beautiful moments with the “Enjoy Danang Again” program.

Accordingly, “Enjoy Danang Again” has been taking place from July 15 to the end of 2024 with the aim of bringing Korean tourists who have been to Da Nang an extremely interesting experience when returning to the central coastal city with a souvenir of a lovely umbrella with stylized images of symbols.

In addition, they are given special offers at the city’s prominent destinations; experiences in cuisine, shopping, spa and more.

Participants will receive souvenirs and keep the moments right at the Tourist Support Center at the International Arrivals Terminal in Da Nang International Airport.

Visitors can scan the QR code provided in publications and information pages about the program to receive incentives from service providers.

Da Nang is the first locality in Vietnam to implement this event for the Korean tourist market. Through this, the city hopes to maintain the recognition of Da Nang in the eyes of Korean tourists as a unique destination.

According to the Da Nang Department of Tourism, for many years, the Republic of Korea (RoK) has been the leading international tourist market in the city. In 2015-2019, the RoK has always been in the top three markets sending tourists to Da Nang. Since 2022, Da Nang has recorded remarkable growth in the number of Korean visitors.

In the first six months of 2024, the total number of Korean visitors staying in Da Nang reached more than 822,765, accounting for more than 41% of the total number of international visitors to the city, an increase of 40% over the same period last year.

Imports of pearls, gemstones from Singapore rise by 2.27 times

The Trade Office of the Vietnamese Embassy in Singapore on August 21, cited the latest figures, saying that after seven months of 2024, Vietnam was Singapore’s 19th largest import market with a turnover of more than 4.7 billion SGD (up 27.03%) and Singapore’s 9th largest export market with a turnover of more than  13.61 billion SGD (up 3.93%). Vietnam remains Singapore’s 12th largest trading partner.

In July 2024 alone, the total import and export turnover between Vietnam and Singapore reached more than 3.1 billion SGD, a year-on-year increase of 20.91%. Exports from Vietnam to Singapore in July continued to achieve high growth of 36.25% with a value of 763.9 million SGD, while import turnover also grew at a high rate of 16.7%, worth more than 2.38 billion SGD.

In the first seven months of 2024, the two-way import and export turnover between Vietnam and Singapore reached more than 18.32 billion SGD, a year-on-year rise of 9.02%, of which exports surged sharply by 27.03%, worth more than 4.7 billion SGD and imports reached more than 13.61 billion SGD, a year-on-year increase of 3.93%.

In July 2024, all three main export groups of Vietnam to Singapore continued to increase sharply. Specifically, the group of machinery, equipment, mobile phones, components and spare parts of all kinds increased by 22.86%; reactors, boilers, machine tools and spare parts of the above machines rose by 68.21%, and glass and glass products soared by 94.61%.

Some other export groups also witnessed strong growth such as iron and steel increased by more than 12 times and optical machines, measuring instruments, medical equipment, watches, musical instruments and accessories of all kinds soared by 3 times. On the contrary, some groups had quite a sharp decline such as paper and paper products down 35.86% and clothing down 23.65%.

Among 21 groups of industries imported from Singapore, 16 groups saw positive growth. Some other groups have very strong growth rates such as tobacco and tobacco substitutes up 1.5 times and pearls, gemstones and jewelry products up nearly 2.27 times.

Hanoi provides high-quality services to welcome 4,500 Indian tourists

A group of 4,500 Indian tourists will be divided into small groups to visit Vietnam from August 27 to September 7, spending most of their time sightseeing and staying in Hanoi.

In addition, to improve the professionalism and behavioral culture of staff, the hotel trains and helps employees participate in courses on Indian culture.

Mr. Patrick Verove, General Director of InterContinental Hanoi Landmark72 Hotel said that the menu includes many typical Indian dishes of different regions and vegetarian dishes. Indian tea and coffee are also served.

In addition to strict requirements on cuisine, the Indian delegation also has its own requirements for the venue. Melia Hanoi Hotel will be the venue for 6 gala dinners with 650 - 750 guests for each program.

Asia becomes Vietnam’s largest cinnamon import market

Asia is Vietnam’s largest cinnamon import market. Indonesia and China are the two main cinnamon suppliers to Vietnam, with 148 tons and 54 tons.

According to preliminary statistics from the Vietnam Pepper and Spice Association (VPSA), Vietnam’s cinnamon imports in July 2024 reached 245 tons with a turnover of 0.7 million USD, down 13.1% in volume against June.

In terms of market structure, Asia is Vietnam’s largest cinnamon import market. In which, Indonesia and China are the two main cinnamon suppliers to Vietnam, with 148 tons and 54 tons.

In the first seven months of the year, the country imported 2,979 tons of cinnamon, worth more than 7.1 million USD, down 75.2% in volume compared to the same period last year. Of which, imports from Indonesia reached 1,299 tons and those from China reached 1,242 tons.

In 2023, Vietnam exported nearly 90,000 tons of cinnamon, with a total export turnover of more than 260 million USD, up 14.6% in volume but down 10.7% in value compared to 2022. Vietnam’s main export markets in 2023 are India, the US and Bangladesh.

Global demand for spices remains high, not only in the food industry but for application in the pharmaceutical, cosmetic and functional food industries. Vietnam has dozens of companies investing in modern cinnamon processing lines, producing ground cinnamon and cinnamon powder to meet market requirements.

According to statistics, Vietnam’s cinnamon growing area is up to 180,000 hectares in the northern mountainous provinces and the North Central Coastal region. Vietnam’s cinnamon bark reserves are estimated at about 900,000 - 1,200,000 tons, with an average harvest of 70,000 - 80,000 tons a year. Vietnam is also the world’s number one cinnamon exporter with a turnover of over 292 million USD in 2022.

However, in addition to domestic production, the country also imports some cinnamon from neighboring countries to serve export./.
