Vietnam Blockchain Union officially established

The Vietnam Blockchain Union (VBN) was officially established on May 17 to connect the local blockchain community to State management agencies in order to develop legal frameworks for the technology and to accelerate the development of Vietnam’s digital economy.

This will see a series of action programmes on the application of blockchain in all economic aspects deployed in a bid to accelerate the digital economy, as well as turning Vietnam into a digital economy on par with international standards, according to the Voice of Vietnam.

The union is tasked with expanding relations with blockchain communities around the world, sharing experience, attracting greater investment in the blockchain industry, as well as training digital human resources.

Hoang Van Huay, chairman of VBU, said the union is committed to raising public awareness and offering advice on the legal corridors in the application of products and services on blockchain technology platforms.

He expressed his hope that VBU will receive active contributions from leading experts and research businesses in order to develop the local blockchain community and build a strong VBU in the future.

Hanoi arranges 28 tours for visiting SEA Games 31 fans

Travel companies in Hanoi have organized 28 tours for coaches, athletes and guests to the 31st Southeast Asian Games, according to the municipal Department of Tourism.

According to the Vietnam News Agency, the tours have been arranged to fit in with the guests’ schedules, and focus on the cultural, historical and architectural values of Hanoi, along with scenic spots and ancient villages on the city’s outskirts.

They include tours visiting President Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum - Ho Chi Minh Museum, Temple of Literature, Hoan Kiem Lake, a cycling tour to Bat Trang pottery village and Co Loa Citadel, along with the chance to discover local cuisine in Hanoi’s Old Quarter.

Tourism companies are also offering trips to Ninh Binh, Sa Pa and Mai Chau, and Vietravel Tourism Company is selling tickets to the opening and closing ceremonies of the Games.

The Hanoi Transport Corporation is also arranging free tours on double-decker buses all delegates, including athletes, coaches and reporters throughout May.

The buses, running between 9am and 5pm every day, can be identified with the Games’ logo and the line ‘Official bus tour for SEA Games 31.

The service, named Hanoi City Tour, is the first of its kind in the capital. The buses carry passengers through 25 streets and have 15 stops at key local tourist destinations such as the Hanoi Opera House, St. Joseph's Cathedral, Hanoi Flag Tower, President Ho Chi Minh’s Mausoleum, Hoa Lo Prison, and the Vietnamese Women’s Museum.

The vehicles are also equipped audio guides in 10 languages and operate every hour.

HCMC plans to provide fourth COVID-19 vaccine dose

Vice Chairman of the People’s Committee of HCMC Duong Anh Duc signed a document No.1591/KH-UBND on providing fourth shots of COVID-19 vaccine building sustainable herd immunity to the disease in the community.

The rollout is aimed at the highest risk groups, including people aged 50 and older (around 1.8 million people), those aged above 18 with immunodeficiency, and specific groups at risk, said the Sai Gon Giai Phong newspaper.

According to the document, Pfizer, Moderna and AstraZeneca vaccines have been approved for fourth booster shots. The program aims to protect people who are coming on four months since their first booster (the third shot) and recovered Covid-19 patients who had a third dose.

The People’s Committees of wards, communes, and towns must submit lists of those who should get priority access to a vaccine.

The vaccine program will be kicked off right after receiving Covid-19 vaccines from the Ministry of Health.

Marksman, canoeist pocket golds on May 17 morning

Vietnamese athletes clinched two gold medals in shooting and canoeing on the May 17 competition day as part of the 31st Southeast Asian Games (SEA Games).

According to the Voice of Vietnam, Tran Quoc Cuong topped the men's 50m pistol series, winning the first gold medal for the Vietnamese shooting team at SEA Games 31.

Meanwhile, Vietnamese canoeist Nguyen Thi Huong also finished first in the women's single 500m, recording a time of 5 minutes 0.752 seconds.

As of 11:30 a.m. on May 17, Vietnam had won 88 gold, 54 silver, and 55 bronze medals, ranking first in the medal table. Thailand came in second with 36 golds, 38 silvers, and 53 bronzes, whilst the Philippines were in third with 30 golds, 34 silvers, and 44 bronzes.

Vietnamese athletes are expected to continue competing at PUBG Mobile, athletics, swimming, basketball, billiards, badminton, chess, and archery on May 17./.
