Passion fruits have become the fifth kind of Vietnamese fruits to be officially exported to Australia, following mango, longan, lychee, and dragon fruit.

Huynh Tan Dat, Director of the Plant Protection Department, underlined that Vietnam has great potential and advantages in tropical fruits. Currently, Vietnamese fruits are available in over 60 countries and territories. Specifically, passion fruits have been exported to 20 countries in various forms such as fresh, frozen, and juice.

The area of passion fruit in Vietnam is currently over 12,000 hectares and is expanding, mostly in the northern mountainous region. Many provinces in the Central Highlands are also expanding the cultivation area of this fruit.

In recent years, Vietnam has concentrated on improving passion fruit quality by promoting chain production and ensuring traceability for the product, focusing on two varieties of yellow passion fruit and purple passion fruit.

In the coming time, the Plant Protection Department will guide farmers and localities to promote production following the requirements of importing countries and further enhance the advantages of passion fruit products.

Australian Ambassador to Vietnam Andrew Goledzinowski said that Vietnam and Australia have enjoyed fruitful partnership in trading agricultural products, including fruits. Many high-quality fruits from one country have appeared in the market of the other, the diplomat noted, attributing the results to mutual trust and joint efforts.

Highly evaluating Vietnamese passion fruit, Goledzinowski described it as a very delicious fruit.

In the near future, both countries will continue to finalise the last steps to bring Vietnamese grapefruits and Australian blueberries to each other's markets, he added.

Two Vietnamese dishes listed among world’s 100 best rated appetizers

TasteAtlas, a website dedicated to discovering fresh ingredients, traditional dishes, and authentic restaurants from all over world, has listed two Vietnamese dishes among its 100 best rated appetizers, said Radio the Voice of Vietnam.

This traditional Vietnamese snack consists of shrimp paste which is then wrapped around a sugar cane. The paste is often enriched with items such as garlic, spices, and occasionally pork paste before it is then shaped around the cane and steamed, grilled, or fried, wrote TasteAtlas.

Although it was once reserved for only special occasions, nowadays this delicious combination is commonly enjoyed as an appetizer or a light snack. The dish can be enjoyed as a whole, although the shrimp can also be taken off the cane, wrapped in lettuce, and then dipped in nước chấm sauce, the website noted.

Apart from the dipping sauce, chạo tôm is often accompanied by freshly sliced vegetables and bánh hỏi rice noodles, it added.

Sugar cane shrimp (Chạo tôm), a delicacy which originates from the central province of Thua Thien-Hue, was in 27th position on the global list.

TasteAtlas also placed Vietnamese fried spring rolls (Chả giò) in 72nd position among the world’s 100 best rated appetizers. The main characteristic of these tasty rolls is the pork and shrimp filling, which is wrapped in delicate rice paper.

Frequent additions to the stuffing include vegetables such as carrots and cabbage, or alternatively mushrooms, glass noodles, and bean sprouts. The rolls are shortly fried and result in a treat with an appetizing golden colour, a thin, crispy, and light outer layer, as well as a delectable filling, TasteAtlas shared.

The website recommended that they are usually served as an appetizer, but can also constitute a satisfying main meal.

Established in 2015, TasteAtlas connects with 9,000 local restaurants, introducing more than 10,000 dishes, thousands of reviews, and research carried out by an array of culinary experts and chefs./.
