Vietnam wins first medal at Paris 2024 Paralympic Games

Le Van Cong, a weightlifter of Vietnam, secured a bronze medal in the men's 49kg category at the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games, marking the first medal for the Vietnamese Paralympic team, said the Vietnam News Agency.

Cong won the medal by lifting 171 kg on his first attempt. He was unsuccessful in his subsequent attempts to lift higher weights.

Meanwhile, Jordan's Omar Sami Hamadeh Qarada claimed the gold medal with a lift of 181 kg, and Turkey's Abdulla Kayapinar grabbed a silver with a lift of 180 kg.

Prior to the tournament, Cong held the world record in the 49kg weight class with a lift of 183.5kg, set at the World Championship in Mexico in 2017. The 40-year-old weightlifter also held the Paralympic record with a lift of 183kg, which earned him the gold medal at the Rio de Janeiro Games in 2016.

Passenger bus route linking Ha Long and China’s Nanning City launched

A fixed passenger bus route connecting Ha Long in the northern province of Quang Ninh and Nanning city in China’s Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region through Bac Luan II Bridge, part of the Mong Cai (Quang Ninh, Vietnam) - Dongxing (Guangxi, China) international border gates was officially launched on September 3, said the Vietnam News Agency.

The route is jointly managed by the Quang Ninh Department of Transport and the Department of Transport of China’s Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, and operated by two transport firms of Vietnam and China.

It is expected to contribute to diversifying tourism products of Ha Long, aiming to promote Quang Ninh tourism development.

As scheduled, a passenger bus departs at 9am (China time) from Nanning and arrives in Ha Long at 2:30 pm (Vietnam time) on every Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday.

In the opposite direction, one bus will run from Ha Long at 10:30 (Vietnam time), and reach Nanning at 16:30 (China time) on every Wednesday, Friday and Sunday.

Each bus can carry maximum 48 passengers having a passport valid for at least six months and a valid visa.

According to the Mong Cai Customs Sub-Department under the Quang Ninh Customs Department, the sub-department will coordinate with relevant agencies to give guidance to people and businesses on customs clearance procedures, while closely monitoring means of transport during the temporary enter - re-exist process.

Exhibitions on cultures of Vietnam's ethnic groups available on Google platform

The online museum platform Google Arts & Culture has officially launched an exclusive site for Vietnam called "Vibrant Vietnam" which offers 31 online exhibitions with over 400 images and dozens of videos on the cultures of ethnic groups in Vietnam, the Vietnam News Agency quoted the information of the Vietnam National Authority of Tourism (VNAT) on September 4.

According to the agency, “Vibrant Vietnam” will help people explore the culture, people and biodiversity of a vibrant Vietnam – a country which is home to 54 ethnic groups.

"Vibrant Vietnam" is another effort by Google to honour and promote the natural landscape, cultural heritage, and diversity of the Vietnamese ethnic community to the global audience.

Hoang Quoc Hoa, Director of the Tourism Information Centre under the VNAT said that Vietnam appreciates Google's initiatives to support the promotion of Vietnam's values globally through digital platforms, particularly the Google Arts & Culture.

Those initiatives are in line with the current strategic orientation of the Vietnam tourism industry, which is to promote the application of technology in promoting and enhancing the marketing of Vietnam's tourism images and brands, he said.

Previously, Google has implemented several promotional projects about Vietnam such as "Google Arts and Culture - Wonders of Vietnam" and “Google Adventure Vietnam”.

Cuc Phuong honoured Asia’s Leading National Park for 6th consecutive year

Cuc Phuong National Park in the northern province of Ninh Binh has been named Asia’s Leading National Park 2024 at the 31st World Travel Awards, the Vietnam News Agency quoted the information of the management board of the park.

The honour was presented at the awarding ceremony held in Manila, the Philippines, on September 3 evening.

The Vietnamese representative outperformed several strong competitors worldwide, including Fuji-Hakone-Izu National Park of Japan, Chitwan National Park of Nepal, Minnieriya National Park of Sri Lanka, Kinabalu and Taman Negara National Parks of Malaysia, as well as Cat Tien National Park of Vietnam, to get the status.

This is the sixth consecutive year since 2019 that Cuc Phuong, which is also the country’s largest nature reserve, has been awarded this title.

Situated 120 kilometres from Hanoi, Cuc Phuong is Vietnam’s first national park, founded on July 7, 1962.

Covering over 22,400 hectares in 14 communes of four districts under the three provinces of Ninh Binh, Hoa Binh and Thanh Hoa, the national park boasts enchanting scenery and offers a stunning range of biodiversity.

As a jewel of the world's forest ecology, the park's dense forests form the habitat for some of Asia's rarest animal and plant species./.
