Exports of goods through seaports rise 4%

The total volume of goods handled at Vietnamese seaports in 2021 increased by 2% over the previous year, of which exports increased by 4%, according to the Ministry of Transport.
Accordingly, about 703 million tons of cargo was handled at the seaports, a year-on-year increase of 2%. Of the figure, export cargo hit over 184.4 million tonnes, a year-on-year increase of 4%, while import cargo stood at roughly 214 million tonnes, up 2%. The handling of domestic goods neared 303 million tonnes, up 7% year-on-year.

The volume of container goods handled at seaports reached about 28.3 million twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs), a year-on-year increase of 6%.
In 2022, transportation activities are expected to be stable, the volume of goods (tons) is forecast to increase by about 6%; the volume of goods through Vietnam’s seaports in 2022 is expected to reach 750 million tons, an increase of about 3% compared to 2021.
In order to ensure competitiveness in freight transport and create favourable conditions for businesses in domestic and export goods circulation, the transport industry will focus on restructuring the transport market in the direction of reducing the market share of road transport, and increasing the market share of inland waterway and rail transport modes./.
