This support is part of 9 million doses of the COVID-19 vaccine that the UK will begin shipping to countries around the world this week. It is the first of 100 million doses the UK will donate over the next year, following a pledge by Prime Minister Boris Johnson at the G7 Summit in Cornwall last month, with 30 million doses to be shipped before the end of the year.

Besides this bilateral support package, more vaccines will be delivered to Vietnam through the COVAX Facility managed by the United Nations. The UK is proud to be one of the biggest contributors to COVAX, with more than GBP548 million to deliver vaccines to countries around the globe, including Vietnam.

Meanwhile, the British Ambassador to Vietnam, Gareth Ward, has affirmed the UK's commitment to support Vietnam in accelerating the national vaccination program, as well as helping the most vulnerable to access vaccines.

Earlier, the Czech Republic Government also announced aid of 250,000 doses.

This timely and valuable support for the Government and people of Vietnam during the time Vietnam is focusing its resources on pandemic prevention, reaffirmed the Vietnam-Czech Republic comprehensive partnership and the Vietnam-UK strategic partnership, the MOFA stated.

It also reflects outcomes of vaccine diplomacy work carried out by the MoFA, the Ministry of Health and relevant agencies of Vietnam under the leadership of high-ranking leaders./.
