Speaking at the program, Dr. Nguyen Huy Quang, Vice Chairman of the Union of Friendship Organizations of Vinh Phuc Province, said that 55 years ago, Vietnam and Cambodia officially established diplomatic relations. “This is an important event, marking a new historical page in the relationship between the two countries,” he said.
According to Mr. Quang, on June 23, 1967, in a telegram sent to Cambodian President Norodom Sihanouk, President Ho Chi Minh stated that the establishment of diplomatic relations between our two countries is a brilliant expression of close friendship and struggling solidarity. It was a historic event in the relationship between Vietnam and Cambodia, a positive factor in peacekeeping in Indochina and Southeast Asia.
He stressed that Vinh Phuc province always expands friendly relations with all countries in the world so that Vinh Phuc people and people of other countries have the opportunity to understand each other better. Cambodia is one of the countries with which Vinh Phuc province has established a relationship of solidarity and friendship. Recently, Vinh Phuc province has organized many delegation exchange programs and welcomed many Cambodian delegations to visit and work. Especially, Vinh Phuc province has established the Vietnam - Cambodia Friendship Association, which is a bridge for the friendship and solidarity between Vinh Phuc and Cambodia.
The province sent thousands of volunteer veterans and former military and civilian experts who helped the Cambodian revolution. Currently, there are more than 100 Cambodian international students studying in the area, and Vinh Phuc province always pays special attention to consolidating and developing friendly relations with Cambodia.
Over the past year, the Vietnam - Cambodia Friendship Association in Vinh Phuc Province has well implemented peace, solidarity and friendship activities such as sending officials to join the delegation to visit and work with the Central Committee of the Vietnam - Cambodia Friendship Association in Cambodia; mobilizing businesses in the province to contribute to the flood-affected Cambodian people and the poor in Svayreng and Bien Ho with a total amount of VND30 million; and visiting and congratulating Cambodian students at Tang Thiet Giap School on the occasion of the traditional Tet holiday in Cambodia.
Addressing the event, Cambodian Ambassador to Vietnam Chay Navuth expressed deep gratitude to the leaders of Vinh Phuc province for organizing a meaningful meeting to celebrate the 55th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and Cambodia (June 24, 1967-June 24, 2022).
The ambassador advised Cambodian students to study well and contribute to developing the friendly relationship between the two countries./.
