Defense cooperation between Vietnam and Japan continues to maintain development momentum

At the meeting, on behalf of the leaders of Vietnam's Ministry of National Defense and in his personal name, Senior Lieutenant General Hoang Xuan Chien sent his deepest condolences to the Japanese people and the family of late Japanese Prime Minister Abe Shinzo, and expressed his belief that the Japanese people and the family of the late Prime Minister Abe Shinzo will soon overcome this tremendous loss.

Senior Lieutenant General Hoang Xuan Chien affirmed that the Vietnamese Ministry of National Defense always attaches great importance to the extensive strategic partnership between Vietnam and Japan, considering it as a premise to promote bilateral defense cooperation to constantly expand, bringing more and more practical effects.

According to Senior Lieutenant General Hoang Xuan Chien, over the past time, despite being affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, defense cooperation between Vietnam and Japan has maintained its development momentum, promoting its important pillar role in the relationship between the two countries. Senior leaders of the defense ministries of the two countries maintain contacts and visit each other. Cooperation contents were actively implemented and promoted in accordance with the aspirations and needs of the two sides and achieved positive results in a number of areas such as exchange of delegations, maintenance of existing cooperation mechanisms, training, participating in UN peacekeeping activities, supporting capacity building, cybersecurity, military medicine, overcoming of war consequences, search and rescue, humanitarian assistance.

He acknowledged and highly appreciated Colonel Hara Takashi's positive contribution during his last working term in Vietnam and wished that he would continue to show good affection for the Vietnamese people and army, actively contributing to the promotion of the two countries' relations in general and the defense cooperation relationship in particular.

He also welcomed Colonel Ishihara Masanao to begin his working term in Vietnam as Japan's Defense Attaché; showed his hope that Colonel Ishihara Masanao will continue to promote the results that Colonel Hara Takashi has made in the implementation of defense cooperation contents and continue to have new initiatives to promote defense cooperation.

Thanks to Senior Lieutenant General Hoang Xuan Chien for his reception, the previous and current defense attaches of Japan emphasized that in the year Vietnam assumes the role of ASEAN Chair 2020, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, some activities must be moved to online form or have not yet been implemented, including the International Maritime Parade and the International Defense Exhibition.

They expressed hope that in the coming time, the Vietnamese Ministry of National Defense will organize the organization of these activities. Colonel Ishihara Masanao also hoped that the Ministry of National Defense of Vietnam would support and create conditions for him to successfully complete his working term in Vietnam, contributing to promoting the development of defense cooperation between the two countries./.
