Ho Chi Minh City an important partner in JICA's cooperation

Mr. Yuho Hayakawa, Head of the Southeast Asia-Pacific Department of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), highly appreciated the dynamic development of Ho Chi Minh City, as well as of Vietnam, and affirmed that Ho Chi Minh City is an important partner in JICA's cooperation.

He made the statement while being received by Vice Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee Bui Xuan Cuong on December 13.

During the meeting, Mr. Cuong confirmed that Ho Chi Minh City’s, as well as Vietnam’s, infrastructure, including transportation and water environment improvement, has received active support from JICA. In which, Thu Thiem Tunnel, Metro No. 1, East-West Boulevard (Vo Van Kiet Street), and water environment improvement project phase 1 and 2 are proof of the good traditional relationship between Vietnam and Japan as well as the effectiveness of programs run in cooperation with JICA.

According to Mr. Cuong, Ho Chi Minh City is accelerating the implementation of Metro No. 1 and the water environment improvement project for completion in 2023.

Mr. Yuho Hayakawa congratulated the trial run of the Metro No. 1 on December 21, and appreciated Ho Chi Minh City’s support and cooperation in carrying out the projects.

Sharing his experience in participating in the implementation of urban railway projects, he said he hoped that Ho Chi Minh City would pay attention to ensuring the operation of Metro No. 1 after completion, in which, training human resources needs to be the focus.

Expressing his hope that Ho Chi Minh City will continue to make efforts to support and promote the progress of projects with the cooperation of JICA, he showed his confidence that the relationship between the two sides will be deepened, contributing to strengthening the cooperation relationship between Japan and Vietnam./.
