Ho Chi Minh City seeks to promote cooperation in India’s key sectors

Vice Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee Vo Van Hoan expressed the city’s desire to boost cooperation with India in its key sectors, such as transportation infrastructure, new technologies, digital transformation, semiconductors, green transition (hydrogen), renewable energy, biotechnology, and the production of pharmaceuticals and vaccines.

He made the statement on September 12 when he met with Rajeev Singh, CEO of the Indian Chamber of Commerce (ICC), who was visiting the city to explore cooperation opportunities.

At the meeting, Vice Chairman Vo Van Hoan expressed his delight at the continuously growing, comprehensive traditional friendship between Vietnam and India. In terms of trade, India is now one of Vietnam’s top 10 trading partners, with bilateral trade reaching a record USD15 billion in 2022, a nearly 14% increase compared to 2021, and USD14.36 billion in 2023. The two countries have achieved significant progress in education, cultural exchange, human resource development, defense, security cooperation and people-to-people exchanges.

He praised the ICC for its significant development and role, expressing his confidence that the ICC’s great potential and the establishment of its representative office in Ho Chi Minh City would greatly enhance trade and investment relations between the city and India.

Highlighting the city's development strategy for the coming period, he emphasized Ho Chi Minh City's desire to strengthen cooperation in India’s key sectors, such as transportation infrastructure, new technologies, digital transformation, semiconductors, green transition (hydrogen), renewable energy, biotechnology, and the production of pharmaceuticals and vaccines.

Mr. Rajeev Singh expressed his appreciation for the strong friendship and cooperation between India and Vietnam, particularly between India and Ho Chi Minh City. He noted that the ICC, with over 2,000 member companies, is India’s largest, most dynamic and pioneering chamber of commerce, representing leading Indian corporations across various sectors. Currently, the ICC operates 13 representative offices in India and 14 abroad.

He mentioned that Indian businesses are highly interested in the investment environment and favorable policies in Ho Chi Minh City. He was accompanied on this trip by 16 Indian businesses seeking potential projects and trade cooperation opportunities in areas such as infrastructure, education, artificial intelligence, energy and logistics. He also shared information about the ICC’s plans, including activities related to AI training and workforce development.

During the meeting, both sides agreed to organize a conference and a series of events over two to three days, focusing on technology and artificial intelligence to explore cooperation opportunities and details./.
