RoK Prime Minister to attend funeral of Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong

On July 23, the Korean Embassy in Vietnam and Korean media announced that a high-level delegation led by Korean Prime Minister Han Duck-soo will attend the visitation and funeral of Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong in Hanoi.

The Korean Embassy in Vietnam posted on its official Facebook page: "Upon receiving the news of the passing of General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam Nguyen Phu Trong, the Republic of Korea Government expresses its deep sorrow and condolences.

“Based on the comprehensive strategic partnership of friendship and close cooperation with Vietnam, the Korean government has decided to send a high-level delegation led by Prime Minister Han Duck-soo to attend the visitation and funeral of Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong in Hanoi.

“The delegation is scheduled to arrive in Vietnam from July 24 to July 25 to attend the funeral."

Previously, upon hearing the news of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong's passing, Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol sent a condolence message.

President Yoon's message reads: "I feel immense sorrow upon hearing the news of the passing of Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong, the great leader of Vietnam.

“On behalf of the government and people of the RoK, I extend my heartfelt condolences to the family and the people of Vietnam on the loss of such a revered leader. The achievements and aspirations of Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong for the splendid development of Vietnam and for deepening the friendly cooperation between Vietnam and the RoK will remain forever in the hearts of the people of both nations."

Over more than 30 years since establishing diplomatic relations, Vietnam-RoK relations have made remarkable progress with significant milestones, from a Comprehensive Partnership in 2001 to a Strategic Partnership in 2009 and a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in 2022./.
