UK Consul General accepted in Ho Chi Minh City

On July 15, Doan Hoang Minh, Director General of the Consular Department, presented the Consular Acceptance Certificate to Alexandra Elizabeth Smith, the new Consul General of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland to Ho Chi Minh City.

Speaking at the ceremony, Director General Doan Hoang Minh congratulated Alexandra Elizabeth Smith on her new position. He expressed confidence that, with her extensive experience, particularly in the fields of economy and trade—as the former Director of Strategy and Negotiations for the UK-EU Free Trade Agreement (EFTA) at the Department for Business and Trade, London, and Economic and Trade Counselor at the UK Mission to ASEAN—she would make positive contributions to the development of bilateral relations in general and consular relations in particular.

The Director General emphasized that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Consular Department, the Department of Foreign Affairs of Ho Chi Minh City, and other relevant Vietnamese authorities would support and coordinate with the Consulate to ensure that the new Consul General completes her term successfully in Vietnam.

He also expressed the desire for both sides to continue promoting cooperation to ensure the legitimate rights and interests of citizens of both countries.

In response, Alexandra Elizabeth Smith thanked Director General Doan Hoang Minh for his time and for presenting the Consular Acceptance Certificate. She expressed her pleasure at the positive developments in the relationship between the two countries, especially the mutual support during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The new Consul General pledged to do her utmost to enhance bilateral relations in various fields, with a focus on consular cooperation, trade, healthcare, education, technology, infrastructure, and the exchange and mobility of people between the two nations in the coming time./.
