He made the statement during a reception for Director of the Asia-Pacific region of UNFPA Bjorn Andersson, on October 3.

During the meeting, Deputy Minister Ngoc expressed his delight that the 10th National Program on Cooperation between the Government of Vietnam and UNFPA for the period 2022-2025 (CPD10) was approved in early 2022 with key areas of activity including sexual and reproductive health; population; youth, and gender equality and women's empowerment.

He emphasized that despite many achievements in the field of population and development, Vietnam still faces many challenges such as population aging, widening gap between rich and poor, and the poor health system, especially after the COVID-19 pandemic. Therefore, the Deputy Minister suggested that UNFPA continue to cooperate and support Vietnam in the coming time to effectively implement the CPD10 program.

For his part, Mr. Bjorn Andersson highly appreciated Vietnam's outstanding achievements in socio-economic development, as well as Vietnam's close cooperation with UNFPA in recent years.

He shared the focus areas of the UNFPA's Strategic Plan for the period 2022-2025 including youth and teenagers; issues of population aging, sexual and reproductive health, especially among vulnerable people and ethnic minorities; gender equality and women's empowerment.

He also emphasized the importance of addressing the issues of population aging and promoting reproductive health, especially among Vietnamese women and children in the coming time, and affirmed that UNFPA will continue to cooperate with Vietnam in these key areas./.
