Vietnamese Deputy Prime Minister urges enhanced cooperation in education with Japan

During the meeting, Special Advisor Takebe Tsutomu expressed his heartfelt condolences on the passing of Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong, recalling his memorable encounters with the General Secretary in Japan and Vietnam. He thanked the Vietnamese government for its strong support for various cooperation programs and projects between the two countries, such as the Vietnam-Japan University, the Japan-Vietnam Festival, the Vietnam Festival in Hokkaido, and the Hokkaido Festival in Ha Long.

Mr. Takebe Tsutomu shared a new vision for the Vietnam-Japan University, aiming for it to develop not only as an academic institution but also as a practical training ground to meet the high-quality human resource needs of both Japan and Vietnam. He expressed his hope that the Vietnamese government would support the university in organizing its 10th anniversary celebration in October 2024, striving to make the university a new symbol of the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership for peace and prosperity in Asia and the world.

Deputy Prime Minister Tran Luu Quang thanked Special Advisor Takebe Tsutomu for his condolences on the passing of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong. He emphasized that under the General Secretary’s leadership, the Vietnam-Japan cooperative and friendly relationship has developed strongly, comprehensively and substantively, with two upgrades in the framework of relations to the Extensive Strategic Partnership in 2014 and the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in 2023.

The Deputy Prime Minister highly appreciated Takebe Tsutomu's efforts, dedication, and significant contributions to Vietnam-Japan relations, especially in cultural exchange, people-to-people exchange and local cooperation over the years, enhancing the mutual understanding and friendship between the two nations.

Acknowledging Takebe Tsutomu’s efforts in promoting the Vietnam-Japan University project, Deputy Prime Minister Tran Luu Quang affirmed that the Vietnamese government would address any issues related to the project. He appreciated the idea of having Vietnam-Japan University graduates continue internships in Japan, which would help students gain additional knowledge while addressing Japan's labor shortage. He expressed hope that the Japanese government, businesses and organizations would continue to support the Vietnam-Japan University and provide job opportunities for its graduates, thereby improving the quality of education and increasing the university's attractiveness./.
