The Quang Ninh Provincial People’s Committee on May 18th granted an investment certificate of Ha Long-Van Don highway and the National highway No.18, section from Ha Long to Mong Duong to the Cong Thanh and Phuong Thanh Investment and Construction Joint Stock Companies.
The project will be undertaken under a BOT (Build-Operate-Trasnfer) contract, with a capital of VND14 trillion (including lending interest rate during construction). Of this, nearly VND12 trillion will be spent on building the Ha Long-Van Don highway.
With a total length of nearly 60 kilometers, the Van Don – Ha Long highway starts at Km 102+300 of the National Highway No.18 in the Dai Yen precinct, Ha Long city. The end of the highway will connect to the main route to Van Don Airport which is scheduled to be built this year.

At the designed speed of 100 kilometer per hour, the highway has four lanes and is 24.5 meter in width. Once completion (expected in 2017), the highway will shape Ha Noi-Hai Phong-Ha Long-Van Don-Mong Cai highway route, reducing traffic flow for Highway 18 and shortening travel time from Hanoi to Ha Long.
The project to upgrade the National Highway No.18, section from Ha Long to Mong Duong, is over 33 kilometers in length. Its first location is at Km 132+330 of the National Highway No.18 at Ha Long city's Ha Tu ward and the last is at Mong Duong ward in the city of Cam Pha.
The upgrade will add two lanes to the highway, making it four lanes, increasing its traffic flow and creating a comprehensive connection to routes on the highway, contributing to speeding up Quang Ninh’s socio-economic development.
At the license granting ceremony, the provincial People’s Committee officially launched a decision to establish a steering committee for the project, led by Mr. Nguyen Duc Long, Chairman of the Provincial People’s Committee./.
