From August 2nd to 12th, the northern Quang Ninh provincial Department of Forest Management has been coordinating with the Asian Wildlife Organization to organize propaganda activities on bear protection in Ha Long city.

This activity aims to improve people’s awareness on the management of bear raising, and using and trading products from bears.

20,000 leaflets in three languages were provided to people and tourists in two precincts of Ha Long city.

The leaflets focus on Vietnam’s laws and international conventions on bear protection; and regulations banning the buying, selling and extracting of bear bile.

There are 22 foundations raising bears with 172 individuals. The provincial Department of Forest Management usually coordinates with relevant agencies to inspect these foundations and provide information to their owners.

The department will continue coordinating with relevant agencies to provide information to the community to prevent illegal bear bile extraction in the province./.
