Over VND1 billion spent assisting poor children during Tet

During the 2014 lunar New Year festival, the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union in the northern province of Quang Ninh mobilized and gave over 5,000 presents to disadvantaged children and those who live in remote areas and are ethnic minority children.

The presents, worth over VND1 billion, were given to children sponsored by the union, those in disadvantaged regions, those who are children of poor cadres, workers and those affected by natural disasters. It created a good response from society and was praised by people.

The number of presents given exceeded the target of 3,000 presents worth at least VND200,000 for poor children during Tet, was set earlier by the union.

Initiated since 2010, so far, the program to give presents to poor children during lunar New Year festivals has been effectively carried out, with over 20,000 presents worth nearly VND2.5 billion collected from unions, agencies and enterprises, and given to disadvantaged children.

Besides the program, cultural and sports activities and tree planting festivals were also held for children across the province during Tet. In addition, the union visited and gave presents to new soldiers who volunteered to enlist to the army./.
