On February 9 (the tenth day of the first lunar month), the Yen Tu spring festival opened in Thuong Yen Cong commune, Uong Bi city, the northern province of Quang Ninh.
The highlight of the festival is the inauguration of a 15-metre high bronze statue of King-Monk Tran Nhan Tong, the third monarch of the Tran Dynasty, who is credited with founding the Truc Lam Zen sect, a Vietnamese Zen school.
The opening ceremony of the festival included art performances and a ceremony to pray for peace for the nation.
The organizing board presented 50 bronze drums and a set of 500 letters of Soul, Prosperity and Happiness in Vietnamese with the gold icon of King Tran Nhan Tong to outstanding individuals and organizations throughout the country.
The statue of King Tran Nhan Tong was recognized as a national record for being a whole-piece bronze statue.
The annual festival, which finishes at the end of the third lunar month, is expected to receive over three million pilgrims this year./.
