Efforts to prepare for new school year in epidemic context

(CPV) – Before the complicated developments of the COVID-19 pandemic, Vietnam's education and training industry is facing many difficulties and challenges. However, the Party, State, education and training sector, and local authorities have quickly and flexibly put proposed urgent measures and effective policies so that the new school year 2021-2022 can take place in a favorable way.

With the goal of minimizing the impact of the epidemic on the education sector and not disrupting teaching and learning, the Government quickly prepared detailed plans and plans and implemented many supportive policies to ensure the necessary conditions for students to start the new school year 2021-2022.

Minister of Education and Training has asked school leaders in each locality to have flexible and urgent solutions to deal with the specific epidemic situation in each place.

Tuition reduction and exemption

In order to create favorable conditions to support students with difficult circumstances, the Ministry of Education and Training has suggested that schools should quickly consider cases that need to be exempted from tuition fees according to the provisions of Decree No. 81/2021/ND-CP August 28, 2021 of the Government so that the children can be more comfortable when starting the new school year.

Accordingly, localities have taken measures to support disadvantaged students, who lack learning facilities, and students who are children of frontline forces carrying out pandemic prevention and control work.

In addition, leaders in many provinces and cities across the country have also proactively adopted a policy of exempting and reducing tuition fees for all students of schools to reduce a part of the economic burden for people amid the impacts of the pandemic.

Timely providing of textbooks

Amid the complicated pandemic situation, the transportation and the supply of textbooks in many places still faced difficulties. Therefore, the timely providing textbooks becomes an urgent task.

In order to promptly prepare the necessary conditions to start the new school year, the leaders of many provinces and cities have sent an official dispatch to request the relevant units to quickly provide enough textbooks for students.

At the same time, educational institutions also need to take initiative in reviewing the actual number of textbooks they need to provide and notify relevant units to facilitate coordination with publishers.

Making plans on vaccination for pupils

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh has emphasized that the Government will have solutions to ensure safety at schools in combination with vaccination. Besides, other pandemic preventive measures will also be strictly carried out at educational institutions.

Accordingly, the Ministry of Health will coordinate with the Ministry of Education and Training to administer vaccines to pupils, which will be carefully considered based on scientific basis and age regulations, for suitable vaccination plans.

Selecting flexible and safe forms in organising new school-year opening ceremony

The Minister of Education and Training has sent an official dispatch requesting provinces and cities across the country to have appropriate plans and measures to conduct the new school-year opening ceremony flexibly, ensuring safety against the pandemic.

Depending on the actual situation of each locality, the opening ceremony can be held in direct or virtual forms, even the start of the new school year can be delayed if necessary.

Online learning continues to be applied in many provinces and cities in the context of the current complicated epidemic. However, aiming to achieve the effectiveness of online learning, it is necessary to strengthen the coordination between schools and families to ensure the quality of teaching and learning.

Leaders of departments and sectors also emphasized that this is a period of complicated developments in the epidemic. However, the beginning of the new school year as well as ensuring the quality of education needs to be paid attention.

Timely policies and flexible measures of the Party and State in epidemic prevention and control have created favourable conditions to start the 2021-2022 school year. The efforts also show the Vietnamese Government’s priority in ensuring and focusing on education.

In addition, the cooperation between the school and family, the consensus of teachers and students will help teaching and learning be carried out successfully, minimizing the impact of the epidemic on the education sector during the difficult period./.
