Ho Chi Minh City has spent more than VND12 trillion supporting more than 8.8 million people facing difficult circumstances because of the COVID-19 pandemic, including over 8.7 million people and over 100,000 businesses.

The figure was announced by Nguyen Van Lam, Deputy Director of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs, during a meeting chaired by the City Steering Committee on COVID-19 Prevention and Control on November 22.

The third support package alone has given support to over 6.18 million people, of over 7.6 million in need.

Among localities, districts 3, 5, 10 and Phu Nhuan report a high percentage of support.

According to Mr. Nguyen Van Lam, some 37,940 labourers have returned to work in Ho Chi Minh City, while the number of businesses resuming their operation has reached 96%.

In the upcoming time, Ho Chi Minh City will work with the Provincial Departments of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs to give utmost support for labourers to return to work in the city. From now until the end of this year, the labour market in the city is expected to develop stably and needs a large number of labourers to complete year-end contracts./.
