One million welfare bags for disadvantaged families

The Central Committee of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union strives to allocate 1 million bags of welfare gifts by the end of the COVID-19 pandemic, in an attempt to help poor people and disadvantaged groups to overcome difficult times.

The allocation of gifts is part of the "Millions of welfare bags" program, first carried out in seriously affected localities like Ho Chi Minh City, Binh Duong, Long An and Dong Nai provinces.

Accordingly, the program will focus on assisting urban poor people, self-employed labourers and those who lose their jobs, patients suffering from serious diseases; young workers losing their jobs; students, pupils, teenagers and children in difficult circumstances; disadvantaged youth; people and children or families with relatives who are F0 or F1 contacts living in difficult circumstances; and children and families of soldiers, doctors and nurses in difficult circumstances.

According to the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union, each gift bag includes food such as rice, cooking oil, eggs, dried fish, canned meat and vegetables worth VND250,000 for people to use within 1 week, or "safety medicine bag" worth VND150,000 including basic drugs to prevent COVID-19 according to the guidelines of the Ministry of Health.

First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union, and Chairman of the Vietnam Youth Federation Nguyen Anh Tuan said that over the past time, all levels of the Youth Union and Associations have promoted the implementation of diverse programs to ease the difficulties of COVID-19 affected people, providing them food, agricultural products, essential items, oxygen and meals.

So far, the organization has cooperated with businesses and individuals to donate 6,200 "welfare bags" worth VND2.4 billion to 6,200 disadvantaged households affected by the COVID-19 pandemic in Hanoi and 8 southern provinces and cities which are implementing social distancing./.
