This statistic was recently announced by the tourism data research company OAG. Every year, based on global airline schedule data, OAG publishes a list of the world’s busiest international and domestic routes to provide an overview of airline performance and route trends of the world aviation.
OAG statistics and analysis show that the Hanoi-Ho Chi Minh City route is the 4th busiest domestic flight in 2023, behind the routes of Jeju-Seoul of the Republic of Korea, Sapporo-Tokyo and Fukuoka-Tokyo of Japan. Ticket sales revenue for the Hanoi-Ho Chi Minh City route increased by 6% and 3% compared to 2019 and 2022, respectively.
Previously, the Hanoi-Ho Chi Minh City route ranked 4th in 2019 and ranked 3rd in 2022 in the list.
Notably, Asia dominates the OAG’s ranking, with Japan taking the lead. Flights connect from Tokyo to popular resort destinations of Fukuoka (a major culinary hub and gateway to the RoK), Sapporo (the popular destination for winter sports) and Okinawa (known as the “Hawaii of Japan”), ranked 2nd, 3rd and 7th respectively.
The world's busiest domestic flight route in 2023 belongs to the RoK, connecting Jeju city to the capital Seoul with 13.7 million seats sold. In particular, this is also the busiest domestic flight in both 2019 and 2022./.
