Nearly VND18 trillion to stockpile goods for Tet in southern hub

Producers and distributors in Ho Chi Minh city prepared more than VND17.8 trillion to produce, stockpile and supply goods for the Lunar New Year (Tet) 2018; an increase of VND743 billion (4.1%) from Tet last year.

This was announced by Ms. Nguyen Huynh Trang, Deputy Director of the city Department of Industry and Trade, in a press meeting on November 22nd.

Of this, goods for market stabilization are valued at VND7.1 trillion. For the peak period from January 17th to February 15th, 2018, total goods value was more than VND10 trillion, in which VND4.2 trillion of goods was prepared to stabilize the market, she said.

Specifically, the amount of goods is 12%-15% higher than the city’s schedule and 20%-30% higher than the implemented result of previous Te. A number of goods were prepared with high volume, to supply 32%-55% of market demand, such as poultry (57.1%), eggs (47%), processed food (39%), cattle meat (35.5%), cooking oil (34.5%) and rice (nearly 30%).

As calculated, the southern hub will consume about 18,000 tons of confectionery, 600,000-700,000 pots of apricot, 250,000-300,000 pots of bonsai and 135 million of flowers of all kinds during Tet 2018.

Enterprises joining the city’s market stabilization programs have pledged to maintain prices over three months from January 15th to March 15th, 2018, Ms Trang stressed. The city will organize more than 1,500 promotional programs, valued at about VND1.2 trillion./.
