Japan tops foreign investors in Vietnam

Vietnam absorbed USD35.46 billion of FDI capital in 2018, in which USD19.1 billion was disbursed, up 9.1% from the previous year, reported the Ministry of Planning and Investment’s Foreign Investment Agency.

As of December 20th, the country licensed 3,046 new projects with a total registered capital of nearly USD18 billion, 84.5% of the same period last year; while 1,169 projects registered an additional capital of USD7.59 billion, down 0.7% year on year.

Capital contributions, and share purchases of foreign investors totaled USD9.89 billion, up 59.8% year on year.

In 2018, foreign investors invested in 18 sectors, in which processing and manufacturing industry attracted the most capital with USD16.58 billion, accounting for 46.7% of the total. It was followed by real estate business at USD6.6 billion (18.6%), and wholesale and retail at USD3.67 billion (10.3%).

Among 112 countries and territories pouring capital into Vietnam, Japan topped the list at USD8.59 billion, accounting for 24.2%; followed by the Republic of Korea at USD7.2 billion (20.3%) and Singapore at USD5 billion (14.2%)./.
