Accordingly, JICA will actively carry out ODA projects, and conduct surveys on Japanese private businesses’ proposals, while JETRO will support and provide information for Japanese businesses investing in Ben Tre.
The MoU will focus cooperation on three main areas, including establishing agricultural value adaptable with climate change; improving investment environment and promoting high quality investment in Ben Tre, especially from Japanese businesses; and developing human resources, especially through cultural exchanges and training of the Japanese language in JICA and JETRO programs for agricultural development and investment promotion.
Besides, it also announced the establishment of a team in support of Ben Tre which includes the public sector, businesses and civil social organizations.
So far, JICA has carried out supportive activities in Ben Tre in building infrastructure, as well as policies and technology.
Earlier, in 2018, JICA and JETRO signed a cooperation deal to increase support for Japanese businesses joining foreign markets. Under the deal, Ben Tre became the second locality nationwide, after Nghe An, in receiving support from the two organizations, and marked the first such cooperation deal in the Mekong River Delta.
In the future, the two sides will contribute to link exchanges of information among parties, participate in investment promotion and economic development in Vietnamese localities.
Ben Tre has convenient conditions for production of agricultural and fisheries production such as coconut planting and shrimp production. It looks to make agricultural production a key economic sector. Compared to other localities surrounding Ho Chi Minh city, Ben Tre has inexpensive and plentiful human resources. It has also been reported to provide a large number of trainees for Japan./.
