Output through Cai Mep Port in 2023 reached nearly 5.6 million TEU |
Specifically, according to Alphaliner, output through Cai Mep Port in 2023 reached nearly 5.6 million TEU. Although the output remained unchanged compared to 2022, Cai Mep still surpassed two ports, Savannah (USA) and Manila (Philippines) to make it on the list, ranking 30th.
Also in Alphaliner's rankings, the world’s five largest ports remain unchanged with the top three positions belonging to Shanghai (China), Singapore and Ningbo-Zhousan (China), and the two ports of Qingdao and Shenzhen (China) swapped fourth and fifth positions. Of the 10 largest ports, six are located in China, with Guangzhou and Tianjin holding the sixth and eighth rankings.
With an output of nearly 8.4 million TEU, Ho Chi Minh City Port increased one rank from 21st to 20th position on the list, continuing to be the largest container port in Vietnam. In Southeast Asia, Ho Chi Minh City Port ranks fifth, after Singapore, Port Kelang and Tanjung Pelepas (both in Malaysia) and Laem Chabang (Thailand).
Thus, 15 years since it came into operation, Cai Mep Port has gained strong development, being named among the 30 largest container ports in the world.
In 2023, Vietnam saw two container ports named among the 30 largest container ports in the world for the first time. In the context that businesses are diversifying their supply chains and promoting production shifts, along with development in investment in seaport infrastructure in Vietnam such as the Can Gio Port project (HCMC), Cai Mep Ha general and container port and Cai Mep Ha logistics center (both in Ba Ria - Vung Tau), Vietnam’s seaport system is expected to continue to maintain positions in the top 30 in the coming years./.
