At the meeting, Mr. Le Thanh Do, Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee, introduced an overview of the socio-economic development situation of Dien Bien in recent times. He said that the general regional domestic product (GRDP) in the first quarter of 2024 is estimated to reach more than 3 trillion VND, up more than 6% year on year.
Therefore, Dien Bien is ranked 4th out of 14 provinces in the northern midland and mountainous region; and ranked 25th out of 63 provinces and cities nationwide. Notably, Dien Bien’s tourism and service sector attracted about 440,600 visitor arrivals, a 1.46-fold increase year on year.
In particular, with many activities within the framework of the Visit Vietnam Year - Dien Bien 2024 and the 70th anniversary of the Dien Bien Phu Victory organized by ministries, branches and Dien Bien recently, the locality has attracted a large number of local people, domestic and international tourists to visit and seek investment cooperation opportunities in the fields of tourism, trade, agro-forestry production and hydroelectric development and afforestation.
In his speech at the event, Mr. Bui Duc Giang, Chairman of the Dien Bien Business Association, said on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the Dien Bien Phu Victory, the business associations of the provinces donated 500 million VND to build charity houses for 2 policy families and poor households in difficult circumstances in Nam Thanh ward (Dien Bien Phu city) and Thanh Yen commune (Dien Bien district).
On the same afternoon of April 3, leaders of the business associations of six provinces and leaders of the Confederation of Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI) handed over houses and presented gifts to two families; and offered incense to pay tribute to heroic martyrs at Martyrs Cemetery A1 and Martyrs’ Temple in Dien Bien./.
