A quick report from the Vietnam Fruit and Vegetable Association (Vinafruit) said that fruit and vegetable export turnover in March was estimated at 433.3 million USD, up 32.9% from the previous month and up 3.8% over same period in 2023.
In the past 3 months, Vietnam’s fruit and vegetable exports reached nearly 1.25 billion USD, up 27% over the same period in 2023.
Notably, among the top 10 fruit and vegetable export markets of Vietnam (updated until the end of February), Thailand and Germany saw rapid growth rates, increasing by 125% and 160% respectively compared to the same period last year.
Accordingly, Vietnam’s fruit and vegetable export turnover to Thailand in the first 2 months reached 28.6 million USD, up 125% over the same period. This result has increased the market share of Vietnamese durian in Thailand from 2% to nearly 4%. Thanks to high growth, Thailand has become Vietnam’s fourth largest fruit and vegetable import market, while just a few years ago it was not in the top 10.

In the 2 months, Vietnam exported 8.9 million USD of fruits and vegetables to Germany, up 160% over the same period last year.
Explaining this sudden growth, Mr. Dang Phuc Nguyen, General Secretary of the Vietnam Fruit and Vegetable Association said that in the first 3 months of the year, the German market increased imports of passion fruit and coconut milk from Vietnam, causing export turnover to this market increase sharply.
Meanwhile, the Thai market was growing strongly thanks to frozen durian products. According to Mr. Nguyen, many Chinese tourists in Thailand love to eat durian. However, Thai domestic durian is only available for about 4 months a year, while Vietnam has durian all year round, so Thailand increased import of the goods to serve tourists./.
