Goods cleared through HCM City Customs increase by 25%

In January 2024, the value of import and export goods cleared through the Ho Chi Minh (HCM) City Department of Customs rose by nearly 25% over the same period last year, worth about 9.74 billion USD.

According to the City Department of Customs, import turnover reached 5.08 billion USD, an increase of 15.75%, while exports were valued at 4.66 billion USD, an increase of 35.79% over the same period last year.

Thus, the trade balance of goods cleared through the City Department of Customs in the first month of the year had a trade deficit of about 429 million USD. With this turnover, the department’s budget revenue also changed positively, reaching 9,453.2 billion VND, an increase of 6.53% over the same period in 2023.

During the recent Lunar New Year (Tet) holiday, the whole country had more than 1,000 businesses participating in import and export of goods, with nearly 10,000 declarations registered at 116 customs branches in 32 local departments.

Total import-export turnover is estimated at 1.41 billion USD. Of which, export turnover reached 0.73 billion USD, imports were valued at 0.68 billion USD. Thus, during the Tet holiday, businesses had a trade surplus of 50 million USD./.
