Social policy credit increases by 6.3% in first half

(CPV) - Policy credit capital continues to actively support poor households to develop production and business, and assist people to overcome the impact of the COVID-19 epidemic.

The Vietnam Bank for Social Policies (VBSP) has held an online briefing for its 63 branches of provinces and cities across the country to evaluate the results of performance in the first half of 2021 and orientations and tasks for the second half.

As of June 30, the total policy credit capital reached 247.34 trillion VND, an increase of 13.914 trillion VND against last year. Of which, entrusted capital from localities posted 23.467 trillion VND, accounting for 9.3% of the total, an increase of 3.152 trillion VND, fulfilling 105% of the 2021 plan.

Total loan sales in the six months reached 48.217 trillion VND, with nearly 1.3 million poor households, near-poor households, households just escaping from poverty and other policy beneficiaries taking loans.

In addition, total outstanding loans were 240.518 trillion VND, up 14.321 trillion (6.3%) compared to the end of 2020, with more than 6.4 million poor or near-poor households and other policy beneficiaries having remaining debt.

The source of policy credit capital continues to actively support policy beneficiaries to develop production and business, improve their quality of life, and assist people to overcome the impact of the COVID-19 epidemic to contribute to poverty reduction, construction of new-style rural areas, and social security assurance.

In the first half, nearly 1.3 million poor households and other policy beneficiaries accessed loans of the VBSP. Policy credit capital has contributed to timely supporting investment in production and business, creating jobs for nearly 249,000 employees, of which 1,600 workers are working abroad for a definite time; helping over 16,000 students with difficult circumstances  continue to study; building 879,000 clean water and sanitation works in rural areas; and building 3,600 houses for policy beneficiaries.

In his speech at the event, VBSP General Director Duong Quyet Thang asked units through the system to boost loans of policy credit programs as assigned, while assigning them to coordinate with relevant ministries and branches to advise and propose the issuance of the Prime Minister’s Decision on paying salary for job stoppage and paying salary for production recovery in accordance with the Resolution of the Government leader./
