US becomes Vietnam's largest export market of agricultural products

The US was the biggest consumer of Vietnam’s agricultural, forestry and fishery products in Jan-Oct 2021 with consumption worth over 10.8 billion USD, accounting for 27.9% of the market, reported the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD).

It was followed by China with nearly 7.5 billion USD, and Japan with over 2.6 billion USD.

Conversely, the US also became the largest export market of agricultural products to Vietnam with value of nearly 3.3 billion USD, accounting for a 9.2% market share.

According to MARD, in October, exports of the products reached 3.4 billion USD, down 15.6% from the same time last year but up 4.2% compared to the previous month.

Over the past 10 months, exports of the products were valued at nearly 38.8 billion USD, a year-on-year rise of 13.1%. Of this, exports of major farm produce hit nearly 17.4 billion USD, an increase of 12.7%, while that of major forestry products reached about 12.8 billion USD, up 22.3%, and fisheries products nearly 6.9 billion USD, down 0.8%.

During the period, products seeing rise in export revenue were coffee, rubber, rice, vegetables, peppercorn, cashew, cassava and cassava products, livestock, shrimp, wooden furniture, bamboo and rattan products, and cinnamon.

In which, rubber, cashew nut, cassava and cassava products witnessed increase in both volume and export value. Specifically, rubber exports increased by 13.9% in volume and 46.55% in value; cashew exports 14.1% in volume and 13.5% in value; and exports of cassava and cassava products 7.7% in volume and 21.2% in value.

Although export volume of pepper reached 783,000 tons, down 5.7%, thanks to an increase of 52.9% in average export price, export value still rose by 44.2%. Coffee volume decreased by 5.1% but export value still increased by 4.1%.

Other items with increase in value were livestock products, 6.1%; shrimp, 0.1%; and wood products, 20.6%./.
