Tuna exports to the CPTPP market are increasing rapidly |
According to the Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers (VASEP) in February 2024, Vietnam’s tuna exports could not maintain the same growth momentum as in the first month of the year, as export value of the commodity reached nearly 52 million USD, a year-on-year decrease of 11%. However, in the first 2 months of the year, tuna exports bagged over 131 million USD, an increase of 21%.
According to statistics from the General Department of Vietnam Customs, by the end of February, Vietnam’s exports of all tuna product groups increased compared to the same period last year (except frozen tuna meat or loin code HS03034 and steamed tuna loin). In particular, the export of canned tuna products increased sharply by 53%. The proportion of canned tuna exports in Vietnam’s total tuna export turnover is also increasing.
Ms. Nguyen Ha, an expert in tuna market from VASEP said that this year, Vietnamese tuna exporters have made efforts to expand the market right from the beginning of the year. In the 2 months, tuna products have been exported to more than 80 markets, compared to 70 markets last year.
Tuna exports to markets such as the US and EU have declined, but the remaining market blocks have seen high growth.
Typically, in the CPTPP market block, tuna exports are continuing to grow. Notably, tuna exports to Canada and Chile are increasing rapidly, up 146% and 116% respectively./.
