Vietnam’s e-commerce likely to reach 30 billion USD by 2024

Vietnam's e-commerce revenue could reach 30 billion USD by the end of 2024, said a representative of the Ministry of Industry and Trade in a recent meeting held by the ministry to improve export capacity on e-commerce platforms.

The online retail market report since the beginning of the year by the e-commerce data company Metric showed that on average, Vietnamese consumers spend approximately 800 billion VND per day on five e-commerce platforms: Shopee, Lazada, Tiki, Sendo and Tiktok Shop, said Ms. Ho Thi Quyen, Deputy Director of Investment & Trade Promotion Centre of Ho Chi Minh City (ITPC).

Accordingly, total sales of the five e-commerce platforms in the first half of the year reached 143.9 trillion VND, an increase of 54.91% over the same period in 2023. This rate is significantly higher than the 7.4% growth of the retail industry in the first six months of the year, according to data from the General Statistics Office.

Mr. Le Hoang Tai, Deputy Director of the Department of Trade Promotion, said that Ho Chi Minh City is considered the country’s digital economic locomotive, with strong steps in applying information technology and digital transformation in all fields, especially in the economic field. Effective application of digital transformation solutions such as social networks, websites, livestreams and email marketing not only helps businesses reach more customers, but also optimizes the management and operation process, bringing many practical benefits to businesses and the economy.

Mr. Le Hoang Tai, in the coming time, the Trade Promotion Agency will strengthen coordination with TikTok, Alibaba.com, OSB (Alibaba.com Authorized Agent in Vietnam), reputable sellers on TikTok Shop and related units and individuals to organize activities to improve business capacity on digital platforms to develop brands, and build images for businesses and cooperatives in the Southeast region./.
