Vietnamese enterprises invest in 42 new projects abroad

Vietnam’s total investment capital abroad reached 136.07 million USD from the beginning of the year to May 20, equivalent to to 43% over the same period, according to the General Statistics of Office (GSO).

In the first five months of 2024, Vietnamese investors invested in 42 new projects abroad in 16 sectors, mostly focusing on mining, accounting for 43.1% of the capital so far this year, followed by manufacturing and processing industry (23.9%); and trading and retail (8.3%).

As many as sixteen countries and territories received Vietnamese investment during the period. Of them, the Netherlands attracted the most investment capital from Vietnam, accounting for 40.1%. It was followed by Laos (36.8%), the US (5.6%) and New Zealand (4.3%).

As of May 20, Vietnam had 1,733 valid overseas investment projects with a total investment capital of more than 22.25 billion USD.

The country’s overseas investment mainly focused on mining industries (31.6%); agriculture, forestry and fisheries (15.6%).

Countries receiving the most investment from Vietnam are Laos (24.8%), Cambodia (13.1%) and Venezuela (8.2%)./.
