Can Tho awarded ASEAN Environmentally Sustainable City Award

Can Tho city is one of 10 cities in the 10 ASEAN member countries honored to be awarded the 5th ASEAN Environmentally Sustainable City Award in a virtual-direct ceremony which took place in Indonesia on October 21 (local time).

Vice Chairman of Can Tho City People's Committee Nguyen Thuc Hien attended the awarding ceremony, which was part of the 16th ASEAN Ministerial Meeting on the Environment (AMME), hosted by Indonesia.
Accordingly, 10 cities were awarded the ASEAN Environmentally Sustainable City Award and 13 other cities were awarded the ASEAN Environmentally Sustainable City Certificate at this awards ceremony. Can Tho City was presented the 5th ASEAN Environmentally Sustainable City Award, while Vietnam’s Ninh Binh City was awarded the ASEAN Environmentally Sustainable City Certificate in the field of clean water.
The 5th ASEAN Environmentally Sustainable City Award and the 4th ASEAN Environmentally Sustainable City Certificate are among the cooperation programs of ASEAN under the coordination of the ASEAN Working Group on Environmentally Sustainable Cities (AWGESC). The program aims to encourage the sustainable development of cities in ASEAN by recognizing and appreciating cities that have undertaken various initiatives and efforts to build clean and green cities.
The ASEAN Environmentally Sustainable City Award is held every three years, starting from 2008. In 2011, a new award was offered named the Certificate of Sustainability, recognizing clean land, clean air and clean water./.
