106th anniversary of General Secretary Le Duan's birth celebrated in Quang Tri

The 106th anniversary of late Party General Secretary Le Duan’s birth (7/4/1907, 7/4/2013) was held at Trieu Thanh commune, Trieu Phong district in the central province of Quang Tri on April 7.

The Quang Tri Provincial People’s Council, Quang Tri Provincial People’s Committee, Quang Tri Fatherland Front, Trieu Phong district, local leaders and residents at Trieu Thanh commune burnt incense and laid wreaths to commemorate late Party General Secretary Le Duan at the Party General Secretary’s memorial house in Trieu Thanh commune, Trieu Phong district and at the leader’s monument in Dong Ha city.

This is a meaningful activity to commemorate and express the pride and unlimited gratitude to the late Party General Secretary Le Duan, resilient communist soldier, outstanding Party leader and loyal child of the Quang Tri heroic motherland.

Le Duan was a founding member of the Indochinese Communist Party in 1930, and took over from Ho Chi Minh as the first secretary of the Vietnamese Communist Party in 1960.

He became Party General Secretary in 1976, a position he retained until his death 10 years later. Le Duan was born on April 7, 1908 into a patriotic family in Bich La Dong village, Trieu Dong commune, Trieu Phong district, Quang Tri Province in central Vietnam.

Also on this occasion, the traditional boat-racing contest was held on Thach Han River. Beside this, other cultural, sport and art activities took place./.
