From 2003 to June 2013, the northern province of Quang Ninh attracted 108 projects from 57 non-governmental organizations (NGOs), coming from countries such as the US, France, Japan and Sweden, with total assistance funds of nearly USD13 million. In addition, 180 delegations with 310 foreigners from the projects came to work in the province.

The information was announced during a recently held meeting between Vu Thi Thu Thuy, Vice Chairwoman of the provincial People’s Committee, and a delegation of the working committee on foreign NGOs, led by Nguyen Ngoc Hung, Deputy Director General of the People's Aid Coordinating Committee (PACCOM).
The meeting aimed to review the implementation of the Secretariat decree on NGOs work and activities in Quang Ninh province.
According to the provincial Department of Planning and Investment, a majority of NGO projects focused on assisting the poor, people living with HIV-AIDS, trafficked women, rural women and children, and vulnerable people in society, contributing to boosting overall economic development and ensuring social welfare in the province.
At present, 13 projects with a total investment capital of over VND65 billion are being carried out across the province.
During the meeting, Mr. Hung received proposals from provincial leaders, pledging to create favourable conditions for the province to carry out NGO projects.
According to Ms Thuy, a majority of the projects related to social welfare, which was praised by the Party committees and people in the province.
She said that Quang Ninh province would continue studying to manage and use NGO's assistance suitably and wisely./.
