Northern district gears efforts for poverty reduction

Ba Che district, in the northern province of Quang Ninh, has utilized all means available to help poor families to boost economic development and stabilize their lives, contributing to a reduction in the poverty rate from 27.37% in 2012 to 16.55% in 2013.

The results were brought about by investing and upgrading a major part of the essential infrastructure, including the electricity system, schools, medical stations and cultural constructions.

The district has also issued diverse policies to encourage people to boost agriculture, forestry and fisheries development.

Through their determination, poor families have taken advantage of production tools and applied advanced technology to agricultural production, gaining high economic efficiency. In addition, the district has efficiently implemented policies on providing housing support and preferential loans for production to the poor, thus facilitating their escape from poverty.

In 2014, the district is encouraging poor families to carry out effective economic development models, including models on planting sugarcane, blue dragon fruits, mushrooms and herbal plants. Meanwhile, the district is accelerating the implementation of policies on supporting the poor’s production, especially commodities production, and giving vocational training to rural labourers./.
