Cai Chien island commune of Quang Ninh province’s Hai Ha district was officially connected to the national electricity grid on April 28th.
Cai Chien is located in Gulf of Tonkin, 15km from the mainland. Its natural area is more than 150 km2, including 10 large and small islands with 160 households, of nearly 570 people.
The project connecting Cai Chien island district to the national electricity grid builds more than 30 km of 22kV medium voltage line from Mong Cai city to Cai Chien island commune, including nearly 3km of submarine line, linking Vinh Thuc Island of Mong Cai city to Cai Chien island. The project is invested with VND198 billion by the Quang Ninh Power Company.
The project is part of the electricity supply program to rural, mountainous and island areas of the government, with 85% of expenditure from the central budget and the remaining from the provincial budget.
Earlier, Quang Ninh province and the power sector successfully implemented projects to bring the national electricity grid to Co To island district and five communes of Van Don district.
Mr. Nguyen Duc Long, Chairman of the Quang Ninh provincial People’s Committee, said the project on electricity supply for Cai Chien Island commune is an important project for security and national defence, protecting the sovereignty of the sea and islands of the country, bringing interest and motivation for economic development./.
