The Ho Chi Minh Department of Health has just submitted to the City People's Committee a draft plan to organize an additional dose and repeated dose (third dose) of COVID-19 vaccine.

Accordingly, Ho Chi Minh City plans to inject the additional doses for residents aged 18 years or more with immunocompromised status who have received the second dose of the vaccine at least 28 days previous. People aged 50 and over are given priority for vaccination.

For the repeated dose, the city will give the injection to people 18 years of age and older who have had the last dose of the basic dose or the supplementary dose at least 6 months ago. Priority groups include people with background disease, needing long-term care at medical facilities, people aged 50 years or older, people who directly test, care for and treat COVID-19 patients, medical staff, and frontline forces against the pandemic.

The injection period starts from December 10, 2021. It is expected that the implementation schedule depends on the vaccine supply source. In December 2021, the city focuses on injecting immunocompromised patients who have received the full basic dose for at least 28 days, and at the same time injecting those who have completed the basic dose for at least 6 months. From January 2022 to December 2022, the city will give injections to people who have had the basic doses for at least 6 months in order of priority; continue to inject for immunocompromised patients with full basic dose for at least 28 days; and ensure coverage of booster doses for all people 18 years of age and older living in the area by the end of 2022.

Facing the complicated development of the pandemic, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Health noted that people need to best implement regulations on pandemic prevention and control, especially 5K measures; try to practice good habits such as wearing masks, disinfecting more often, and reducing gatherings with close distances to reduce the risk of contracting the disease.

As of December 5, more than 7.92 million eligible people in Ho Chi Minh City had received the first injection, of which nearly 6.82 million people had received two injections./.
