According to VOV, at 07:00 a.m. the storm was located in the northern part of the Paracel archipelago, packing winds of 74kph near its centre.

In the next 24 hours, the storm is anticipated to move north-west at a speed of 10-15kph and make landfall over China’s Hainan island.

It will weaken into a tropical depression and make another landfall over China’s Guangxi province on July 23.

As soon as it makes further inland, the storm will continue to lose its strength and dissipate over the southern part of Guangxi.

Tracking the course of the storm, meteorologists said it would also hit the northern part of Vietnam on July 23.

Due to its impact, northern and north-central localities are likely to endure a long spell of heavy rain from July 22-24.

The storm will dump heavy rain of between 100-200mm or more in northern coastal provinces plus Thanh Hoa province, warned the meteorologists./.
