On June 10, the Vietnam Peacekeeping Force (GGHB) at the United Nations Interim Security Force for Abyei (UNISFA) Mission held a ceremony to receive the Medal for the cause of UN peacekeeping for the 2nd Engineer Team and the working team at UNISFA Mission, Abyei area.

At the ceremony, Brigadier General Ameer Muhammad Umrani, Acting Chief and Commander of the UNISFA Mission, acknowledged and congratulated Vietnam on its recent achievements.

He emphasized that Vietnam's active participation in UN peacekeeping activities and the encouraging results prove that Vietnam clearly understands the value of peace and stability. This understanding is deeply rooted in historical factors, because Vietnam has gone through many years of war and won national independence through persistent struggles and a strong spirit of self-reliance.

Previously, on June 9 (Abyei time), a working delegation led by Lieutenant General Pham Truong Son, Deputy Chief of General Staff of the Vietnam People's Army, visited and encouraged Vietnamese peacekeeping forces at the Highway base - where the Vietnam Engineer Team is stationed at the UNISFA Mission, Abyei area.

Lieutenant General Pham Truong Son highly appreciated the results the force has achieved in recent times, stressing that they had undergone diverse difficulties in terms of harsh climate, dangerous epidemics, unstable security, poor accommodation and transportation conditions, and difficult supply of goods during the rainy season, in order to realize their tasks.

On this occasion, Mr. Son awarded the decision to promote military rank to 7 officers of the peacekeeping force at the UNISFA Mission, Abyei area.

As planned, on June 9-13, the Working Group will work with leaders and commanders of the UNISFA Mission to discuss the results of implementing the tasks of Vietnam's peacekeeping force in the area; explore the possibility of continuing to deploy Vietnamese individuals and units to participate in UN peacekeeping activities; visit a number of units from countries stationed at the UNISFA Mission; and research and learn about countries' experiences in preparing and deploying forces to participate in UN peacekeeping activities./.
