VND18 billion committed to give free heart surgeries to disadvantaged children

VND18 billion has been committed to sponsor heart surgeries for disadvantaged children during a recent gathering which marked the journey of 14 years of the humanitarian heart surgery program “Heart for children” benefiting poor children with congenital heart diseases.

According to a representative from the Viettel Military Industry and Telecoms Group (Viettel), one of the organizers of the program, of the assistance capital, VND5 billion comes from Viettel, and over VND300 million comes from the message program, which will last until January 8, 2023.

"Heart for children" is a free heart surgery program for poor children founded and coordinated by Viettel Group and the Vietnamese Heart Foundation (Vietnam Television) since 2008. Not only bringing healthy living for children, the program also sponsors improving the capacity of medical facilities to examine and treat heart diseases; and organizes check-ups for congenital heart disease for children in remote areas for timely treatment methods.

After 14 years, 6,500 children have received financial support for heart surgery or intervention from the program, 41 online counseling programs have been organized to help connect people with leading heart experts to improve people's awareness about congenital heart disease, helping to better care for children with congenital heart disease. In addition, 150,000 children in all provinces and cities across the country have joined 86 free check-up programs.

Thanks to the increased social involvement in the program, besides the VND70 billion contributed by Viettel during the past time, the program also called for nearly VND200 billion from individuals, businesses, domestic and foreign organizations./.
