Nine months: Forestry export value hits USD6.64 billion

(CPV) - Export value of forestry products reached USD6.64 billion in the first 9 months of the year, 73.77% of the year’s plan or up 14% over a year earlier, according to Vietnam Administration of Forestry.

Notably, trade surplus of major forestry products posted USD4.97 billion in the nine months, including USD4.64 billion of wood and wooden products. Export turnover of the commodity is expected to reach USD9 billion the whole year of 2018.

The US, Japan, the EU, China and Republic of Korea are the five key markets, making up about 86.72% of the total export turnover (equivalent to USD5.17 billion).

The overall growth rate of these markets is 15.4%, including 15.5% of the US, 6.45% of China, 10.3% of Japan, 52.3% of the Republic of Korea and 5.06% of the EU. The remaining markets see a growth rate of 21.4%.

So far this year, the country has planted 161,207 hectares, up 7.5% compared to the same period last year, including 7,438 hectares of protected forest for special use and 152,078 hectares of production forest. In addition, 43.7 million scattered trees were planted, 74% of the year’s plan and up 8% over a year earlier./.
